Jane Lombard Gallery is pleased to announce the representation of Los Angeles-based artist Adam de Boer. The gallery has worked closely with de Boer since presenting his work at Frieze Los Angeles in 2026, and will continue this collaboration with a presentation at Frieze Los Angeles in 2027. A solo exhibition of de Boer’s work at Jane Lombard Gallery is slated for 2028.
Adam de Boer (b. 1984, California) earned an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts, London in 2012 and a BFA in Painting from the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2006. His practice combines Javanese techniques, including batik and wood carving, with Western oil painting. Drawing from his Dutch-Indonesian heritage and lived experience, de Boer explores cultural identity, place, and the ways histories and traditions intersect. For over a decade, de Boer has developed his own adaptation of batik, by incorporating the process into his painting practice. Through this hybrid approach, de Boer considers how cultural identities are inherited and transformed, bringing together cultural memory with the places that shape his experience.
De Boer is a Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellow and was awarded a Fulbright Research Fellowship to Java, Indonesia in 2017. In 2024, he was selected as the Los Angeles winner of the Paul Smith Foundation International Art Prize. His work has been exhibited internationally at galleries and institutions including Taymour Grahne Projects, London; The Pit, Los Angeles; Gazelli Art House, London; Gajah Gallery, Jakarta and Singapore; Ben Brown Fine Arts, London and Hong Kong; and The Hole, New York and Los Angeles.
